Day 15 (Last Day)

Today was the longest day I've had in a while. My team mates & I stayed overnight in school to composite the final footages because rendering the footages already took till around 8pm of Day 14. Throughout the entire absence of sunlight, we worked our head off helping one another to stay awake & focused on our project. We shared views & helped one another for compositing. We have solved most of our problems except for a distinct realism.
Also, today, I edited the sound effects for the audio output.

It's currently 10 minutes to 11am. Presentation will start in 3 hours from now. We're all shagged & drained out but we're also doing our best to keep our things together.

Day 14

The render has a lot of problems. The whole geometry will stop rendering at frame 21 & stop there. So I decided to render out different parts of the geometries. The ledges, roof & the door has finished rendering. However the building blocks are still rendering. Time now is 6.04 pm but the building has been rendering since 11am. It's probably because of dynamic simulation. The windows were the ones causing the render to stop at frame 20. My teammates & I are facing this huge problem. We must find an alternative solution.Hopefully whatever it is, it'll pull off well.

Day 13

I did the smoke today in houdini. Tried it out & experimented with the settings to match like real smoke movement.

Day 11 & Day 12

The collapsing building seems to be working with the texture already. Hopefully it will be fine when we render it out. In the meantime in these 2 days, I researched a lot on how to make smoke render out realistically. I tried particles, fluids, all ways in maya & followed a total of 7 different tutorials from the net. Not counting divided parts of a full tutorial.

However, I have experimented in houdini & got help by Mr TK ng & Mr Ron. Hopefully by Day 13 it will all be fine to be rendered.

Day 10
I tried out the animation of the collapsing building but somehow it doesn't seem to be working after textured. The solution was to delete the history first. So I'm still waiting for the textures to be done.
Day 9

I was told to modify the windows of the building. As you can see, the windows are made into rows almost joined together. The number of floors have been decreased to 10 as well.

I also started working on the smoke.

Day8

Today I researched for royalty free sound effects.

Day 7

After 2 days of re-shooting, I have also came up with improved versions for my CG building model.
Instead of blank sides , I have added windows & ledges.

Day 4

We stayed in school to do testing o-f our project. Because we are planning to shoot the real footage on day 5 & we want to make sure everything goes well & according to plan. Being the modeling TD , I did up the model for the CG building.

Day 3 -

We went out to shoot for our test shots. Came back to school & finished our previz.

Day 2 -

Knowing we had to do a collapsing building, I took the first step by experimenting in making a block of cube fall to the ground like a demolished building.

First, I went to look for tutorials on youtube. But I found this particular one the most helpful.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb2jWety2u4

After which, I followed his methods & had the desired effect. Though, more tweaking is needed to make it look real.

This was just the first tryout.

Create Block.

After adding  Shatter Tool.
                         End Product.

After knowing how to do this, I started to make a draft building model.

Followed by trying out to use the dynamic effects.

I then used a simpler one for previz because it took very long for the shatter tool to calculate the script. Not to mention smoke particles later on & the total rendering time.
